While tending the tree collards I discovered this foam like substance underneath a collard leaf.
The leaf had been quite the feast for some garden pest which is how the foam came to my attention.
Curious, I took a small twig and poked at the foam to see what I could learn. It was then I discover something green inside the foam.
A green insect found inside the foam.
Still curious I poked at the green thing until it became apparent it was an insect.
So I removed a little more foam to get a better look at the insect inside.
It’s hiding spot exposed, the insect started to come out on its own.
Now seeing the insect fully and unable to identify it, I took a picture and began searching on the internet for what I could find.
A spittlebug found underneath a tree collard leaf.
The search began with the keywords “indentify garden pests” which gave me a few sites to browse through. However none of them were very helpful.
I then searched for “best garden pests websites” which slightly more helpful did not help me identify what I was looking for.
I then tried searching “garden pest foam” which immediately brought me to indentifying the insect as the spittlebug. Now knowing what kind of insect it was I was able to learn a little about it and decided to let it live albeit a hundred feet or so from my garden.
