Umqua Broccoli sprouting
It was only yesterday that nothing was there. Just the flat surface of a soil block topped with vermiculite.
Today, however, is different.
Seeds are sprouting and a sense of satisfaction with the work done up until now is settling in.
But that sense is fading as I know some of what I do not know. But with practice, I’m getting better. I know things now that I did not know last year. For example, I know when I started this flat of seeds, I know how long it took to sprout.
That’s a baseline.
I can repeat that and compare results the same time next year God willing. I can repeat that next month and compare results. Over time, with practice, experience, and data, I’ll continue to learn and grow like these sprouts.
The skills of self-sufficiency take time to learn and they can only be learned with consistent effort. Watching and reading are helpful, but there is no substitute for doing the work.
